Thunderbolt wake up in second half

BANDAR Penawar Sports School-Thunderbolt had a shaky first half, but woke after the breather to beat Petaling Jaya City Council 4-1 in Division One of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday.
In another Division One match, the National women’s hockey team (MWHA) suffered their second defeat in the JHL when they went down 3-2 to Anderson of Ipoh.
Anderson took the lead off Soffian Kamaruddin in the 31st minute off a penalty corner attempt, and then a minute later, Soffian scored a field goal to make it 2-0.
The women came back into the match in the second half with goals from Siti Noor Amarina in the 51st and Fazila Sylvester Silin in the 67th minute.
However, Jasdev Singh nailed the winner for Anderson with a 70th minute penalty corner attempt.
The women, preparing for the Chile World Cup Qualifier later this month, had lost to UniKL 3-1 in their first match.
“The women’s team had the stamina to run alongside my boys, and they were also tactically sound. However, when push came to shove, they were not prepared for us,” said Anderson coach Mokhtar Baharuddin.
Mokhtar said now that they had won two matches, he is looking forward to another good outing next weekend.
“I am pleased with the way my team had played in their two matches, and going by current form, they should be able to maintain their winning ways next week as well,” said Mokhtar.
In Division Two, two red cards were flashed at Ipoh City Council players, during their match against Matri. Ipoh CC player Mohamed Saifuddin was flashed the red card in the 10th minute, while goalkeeper Razali Hazar was sent out on a red card in the 66th minute.
The JHL is only into its second first weekend, but already three red cards have been flashed in Division Two with the first to receive it was Datuk Taha player Amirul Iskanariah on Friday.
