MALAYSIA Under-16 hockey players showed promise when they held a clean slate after three matches against the Singapore Junior World Cup players at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium last week.
Malaysia won 2-1, drew 0-0 and won the final friendly 3- 1.
Singapore and Malaysia will co-host the Junior World Cup on June 7-21, with Singapore placed in Group D with India, Netherlands, New Zealand and Poland.
And co-hosts Singapore are expected to be in for a torrid time, as they could not even beat our under-16 players.
Forwards Amir Farid and Fitri Ashari scored two goals each in two matches. The other goal was scored by Ibrahim Rosli.
Under-16 coach K. Dharmaraj was elated with the results against a team which is in their final preparations for the Junior World Cup.
“I had three 15-year-olds on the tour, and they managed to soak in the pressure and beat much older opponents,” said Dharmaraj.
The Malaysian boys were supposed to play in a Four-Nation in Germany, but the plan was derailed by the H1N1 flu scare.
