KUALA LUMPUR: Anderson Thunderbolts is eyeing the second spot in Division One of the Junior Hockey League (JHL), as Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts are almost assured of the League title.
SSTMI Thunderbolts have opened up an eight point lead with maximum points after seven matches, and will be difficult to chase at this point.
Anderson, whose best finish in the JHL to date is third, are second right now on 13 points after six matches and will have to beat Old La Sallians Association of Klang (Olak) at the Azlan Shah Stadium today to keep their dream alive.
And their two more matches are against Sabah Sports School Resilient followed by Pahang Sports School Thunderbolts.
"We must collect full points against Olak to keep the second spot in sight as after tomorrow (today) we have tougher matches against Sabah and Pahang," said Anderson coach Nizam Hashim.
Olak are lying at the bottom of the table after losing all six matches. They have let in 35 goals and only scored three.
Anderson on the other hand, have won four, drew one and lost one match. And even though they have only scored 15 goals, but they have a good defence and only let in six goals in six matches.
"We can't afford a slip at this stage as UniKL and Pahang both have 12 points and will also be aiming for the second spot," said Nizam.
Bukit Jalil Sports School, on 10 points, are the other challengers to Anderson's quest.
"As a school team, we are still the best in Perak, but as a JHL club we have yet to finish this high and so I believe my players will give their best against Olak for starters."
Olak will also be fighting their own battle today to avoid relegation to Division two together with Perlis Young Lions who have also yet to win a single point after six matches.

JHL: SSTMI Thunderbolts hammer OLAK 5-0
KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts demolished Old La Sallians Association of KLang (Olak) 5-0 in Division One of the Junior Hockey League (JHL) in Pandamaran yesterday.
The win saw SSTMI Thunderbolts consolidate their League title quest, as at this stage, they have 21 points from seven matches with two 'easy' matches to play.
As for winless Olak, they are in danger of being relegated to Division Two next season together with Perlis Young Lions who also have yet to win or draw a match.
Two teams from Division One will be relegated, while two teams from Division Two will be promoted at the end of the JHL.
SSTMI scored all five goals in the first half off Akhimullah Anuar Esook (second, 18th, 34th), Shello Silverius (17th) and Shahrin Izzuddin (27th).
"Realistically, the League title is ours to lose as we have opened up a huge lead from our nearest challenger Anderson (eight points). And I don't see my players losing to Perlis Young Lions on Sunday to give Anderson a chance to catch up," said SSTMI Thunderbolts coach Wan Roslan Wan Rahman.
Mathematically, SSTMI are the League champions at this stage and even their last match against Petaling Jaya City Council (PJCC) Tigers should be a walk in the park.

SSTMI Thunderbolts too strong for OLAK
KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts are expected to claim a comfortable victory over Old La Sallians Association Klang (Olak) in Division One of the Junior Hockey League at the Pandamaran Stadium today.
Only the score is yet to be determined.
SSTMI Thunderbolts are champions elect, as they have beaten all the tough teams and their final three matches are just to complete the fixtures before they can lay their hands on the League title.
The Johor Sports School is sitting pretty with 18 points from six matches while their nearest rival is Anderson Thunderbolts who has 13 points after six games.
And there is no way that SSTMI is going to lose their next three matches, against lightweights, and allow Anderson to pip them to the title.
"We have beaten the three tough teams in Division One (Anderson, Bukit Jalil Sports School and Pahang Sports School) and I believe my players will not disappoint against Olak tomorrow (Friday), followed by PJCC (Petaling Jaya) and Perlis (Young Lions).
"We need to take control of the Olak game early, to make our work much easier," said SSTMI coach Wan Roslan Wan Rahman.
And while SSTMI has yet to lose or draw a game, bottom of the table Olak has lost all five matches and let in a total of 30 goals and scored only three.

Pahang blast OLAK 5-1
KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang Sports School (AHP-SSP) Thunderbolts blasted Old La Sallians Association of Klang (Olak) 5-1 in Division One of the Junior Hockey League in Kuantan yesterday.
The win saw Pahang SS remain second on the standings, and their only blemish in the JHL a 5-0 defeat to current leaders Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts.
Olak drew first blood in the seventh minute off Irfan Haiqal, but that was all they had to show.
Pahang SS clawed back into the game with a 14th minute goal from
Haqif Aiman, while the other four goals were scored by Syawal Razak (20th), Shafiq Ikhmal (23rd), Firdaus Rosdi (43rd), Syawal Razak (50th).
Pahang SS coach Sufian Mohamed said Olak managed to score before his players could settle down.
"Even though we played at out own backyard (Wisma Belia Stadium), my players could not settle down early and made many mistakes which resulted in the goal.
"But once they took control of the match the goals came in easy," said Sufian a former national player.
Pahang will next travel to Likas and play with Sabah Sports School Resilient on Friday.
"We will be playing at a 'foreign' venue and so the team willa arrive in Sabah early to get used to the field. We will be in Sabah Wednesday, have a feel of the pitch on Thursday to be ready for another three points," said Sufian.

Matador Malaysia win two golds and a silver in Australia Sikh Games

Matador won golds in the Junior and Open categories, while their Masters team grabbed the silver medal -- losing narrowly 3-2.
Matador HC is coached by former Olympians Sarjit Singh and Maninderjit Singh as well as former international Baljit Singh Charun and former National Juniors coach Balbir Singh.
