TENAGA Nasional Bhd stretched their unbeaten run to 11 matches but Sapura
played their hearts out and stole one point in an entertaining Malaysia
Hockey League match at the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Tenaga threw everything they had in the last five minutes but Mahinder
Singh, Nor Saiful Zaini and M.T. Kaliswaran missed about 10 sitters
between them and Sapura heaved a sigh of relief when the final whistle
blew.
In the first half, Tenaga coach Sulaiman Saibut decided to play former
national skipper Nor Saiful in defence with Nor Azlan Bakar and the duo,
with goalkeeper S. Kumar, ensured a clean slate although Sapura received
several penalty corners.
In the second half, Tenaga started attacking and Nor Saiful went upfront
to help Tajol Rosli, Mahinder and Kaliswaran.
But Sapura, who lost 5-1 to Tenaga in the first round, had luck on their
side and surviving the 69th minute attempt by Tajol was just how lucky
they were.
Tajol, after receiving the ball from Nor Saiful, took a shot at goal but
with Sapura goalkeeper Nasihin Nubli beaten, the post saved them.
Sapura manager Kenneth G. Pereira was elated with the draw.
"I am very happy that the boys managed to win one point against a side
like Tenaga. I am especially happy with the way Nasihin defended the
goalmouth today (yesterday)," said Kenneth.
In another match, BSN beat Navy 2-0 and, like always, their Pakistan
players saved them the blushes.
Navy have lost all 11 matches in the League thus far and have conceeded
81 goals in the process but BSN found them a tough nut to crack yesterday.
Sohail Abbas converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute while Kashif
Jawad scored a field goal in the 41st minute.
