UniKL hit high note..

MILO-Junior Hockey League regulars Datuk Taha of Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan, picked up the dubious distinction of being awarded the first red card of the season at the Seremban II pitch yeterday.
Datuk Taha's Khairul Izwan was flashed the red card in the sixth minute, but they still went on to beat Old La Sallians Association of Klang 1-0 with 10 players in Division Two, Group B.
The Taha winner was scord by Amirul Roszainie in the 18th minute.
In Division One, League champions UniKL Young Guns made short work of Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Juniors with an emphatic 8-0 win.
It was UniKL's third win of the seson, and they look confident enough to retain the League title with only SSTMI Thunderbolts being their biggest hurdle.
However, the title would only be decided in the last match of the season on Feb 19, as that is when UniKL and Thunderbolts square off.
Yesterday, the UniKL goals were scored by Taufik Abdul Hamid (seventh, 64th), Hafify Rodzi (20th), Nor Aqmal Ghaffar (21st, 57th), Aslam Hanafiah (32nd), Haziq Samsul (36th), Syafiq Zulzairin (67th).
"We started off slowly by beating MBPJ 2-1 and then TBSS 4-0, and it was nice to see that the players were hungry to score in this match," said UniKL team manager Amir Azhar.
However, Amir is still unhappy with their penalty corner conversion: "We received eight penlaty corners but could only score two off direct attempts, and one off a set piece. We need to improve further in that department."
UniKL nect play Bukit Jalil Sports School next weekend, and should continue their winning run.

Singapore into Olympic Qualifier!

Note: The new fixtures will see India playing Singapore in their opening match on Feb 18. Good luck neighbours...

THE FIH today announced that Singapore will take the place of the United States at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in New Delhi, India from February 18-26.

Singapore, ranked No 41 in the FIH World Ranking was contacted to join the six team men’s qualification group after the United States unexpectedly pulled out of the event.
“We were pleased that Singapore agreed on such short notice to take part in the Olympic Qualification event,” said FIH CEO Kelly Fairweather. “It will undoubtedly give its men’s national team valuable experience in a major international tournament.”
The tournament in Delhi will feature a six-team round robin format. Following the round robin, the teams ranked first and second will play for a berth to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The remaining four teams will play placement games for FIH World Ranking points.
The six are India, Singapore, Canada, Italy, France and Poland.
