MALACCA Municipal Council (MMC) will be making a comeback to the Junior
Hockey League (JHL) which begins on Feb 7.
MMC, overall title winners in 2001, did not compete last year because of
cash-related problems with their players. They will be playing in Division
Two but have enough firepower to achieve their target.
Eugene Lee, who was with Tenaga Nasional Bhd last season, is back with
Malacca, and has roped in six former Anderson School (Ipoh) players to
strenghten his quest.
"Malacca has managed to get some of the best players around and the
prospect of gaining promotion is there for us," said Eugene.
The former Anderson players are goalkeeper Narul Aim, Faizal Ani, Hanif
Hamzah, Faizal Bakar, Nazrin Naserruddin and Mohamed Nor Othman.
Faizal Ani playing a leading role in helping Anderson lift the recent
Champions Schools title for a record eighth time in Klang.
"The rest of the players are mainly from Malacca High School, which was
thinking about fielding a side in the JHL but it did not materialise,"
said Eugene.
This year's JHL will see a record 23 teams competing and in Division
One, Tenaga Nasional Bhd will once again be among the frontrunners.
Tenaga, JHL semi-finalists last season, have managed to rope in some
formidable names like Azli Misron, S. Selvaraju, S. Bubalan and Kelvinder
Singh - all playing for the Under-19 team in the on-going Four-Nation
International Invitational at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
The top 10 teams from last year will be playing in Division One while
the rest in Division Two.
