TENAGA Nasional won the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) Premier Divison Charity Shield match last night when they beat Sapura 3-1 at the Tun Razak Stadium.
The match will also carry points for the MHL, which is a six-team tournament this season.
The first half was a drab affair as both teams were cautious in their approach and the score remained 0-0, with not a single penalty corner won by both teams.
However, TNB took the lead two minutes into the second half off their first penalty corner when Amin Rahim flicked in beat goalkeeper Nasihin Nubli.
The goal opened up the match, and Sapura won their first penalty corner and Ahmad Kazamirul equalised in the 43rd minute.
Tenaga rose to the occassion and scored two more goals off Izwan Firdaus (57th) and Fairuz Ramli (63rd) to seal the Charity Shield.
Today, three matches will be held at the Tun Razak Stadium, with Nur Insafi being the drawcard as they will be parading 16 foreigners this season and Sapura will be their first challenge.
